See a printable version of this infoSibling relationships are one of the most complex forms of relationships we can experience. The love/hate rollercoaster ride takes us to the extremes of love and joy and frustration and anger. It is even more challenging to be the parent of two or more siblings. Competition, revenge, retaliation, defense, bullying, unfairness are words that we frequently hear when dealing with a sibling relationship.
Children often accuse us as being unfair, not listening or not understanding. At times it seems as if the children have their own game of trying to get us to back down. Are there skills we can use to support relationship building, sharing and partnerships? Are there ways in which we can build our children’s self-esteem so that they do not feel that they are in the shadow of their sibling?
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Support them to effectively resolve conflict on their own.
- Nurture the individual self-esteem while being in relationship to each other.
- Support communication of respect and understanding.
- Create the experience of having a sibling a positive one.

Testimonials
These skills are not rocket science. They are about being aware of and using a language of respect and understanding. My child came to me the other day and said, “Dad, I know there are times when we make you really angry, but we are also aware of how hard you try to make it work for us as well.” Nstiki
My teenage sons have had a difficult time growing up together, especially because the one is gifted at sports. As I have begun to change my language pattern, I have noticed that they have also changed the language pattern in communicating with each other. I can see the possibility of a future relationship between them that is fulfilling and meaningful. David
When I walked into my child’s room to see the older sibling holding a cricket bat above, my younger son's head, I knew I needed to do something differently to support them. I now have different skills at my disposal: skills to resolve conflict, skills to empower, skills to engage cooperation, and skills to support them in nurturing their relationship to each other.
